Right Side of the Tree's album released!

RIGHT SIDE OF THE TREE'S album, The Novo Project is now available for MP3 download at Amazon.com. Let's make them very successful and download all of their songs! This album has been one of my most anticipated albums of the year!

Free Music!

Purevolume.com has Top 21 unsigned artists of 2008 -all for download!
1 selected song per artist is available for free download! Yeah, I know usually all free downloads are the worst of the worst, but in this case, i actually enjoyed some of the music. It is mostly hard rock, but all of the songs are different with their own styles.
check it out here

So Worth It

So, I came across this band on Myspace called Stereofix. This song starts playing automatically and I was totally impressed. So, I noticed they had an EP out on iTunes, titled "The Warning Sign". I was surprised at how good it was. I was blown away by one song in particular, "A Day Without You". They have a modern rock sound that can be compared to Coldplay, just more rock. Long story short, they are worth listening to.

New Hit Band Alert: The Real You

The Real You has just released a new EP titled, Better Now Than Never.
It features potential hit song (in my opinion), "Unwound".
They have a Jack's Mannequin/ The Maine sound to them. Their songs are very catchy and release a happy vibe.

It's now on iTunes and you can check out other songs on their myspace

Maroon 5 Remix

Maroon 5's, Call and Response: the Remix Album, was just released. It is composed of many of their hit songs remixed with other popular artists. It features Pharrell Williams, Cool Kids, Mary J. Blige, Cross, David Banner and others. All of these artists input their own styles in these Maroon 5 songs to make them sound unbelievable.

The songs are really cool and even more energetic than the originals.

It's on iTunes.

NEWS: Coldplay accused of plagiarism

VS
Because of their hit song, "Viva La Vida", Coldplay is being sued by Joe Satriani for plagiarism of his song "If I Could Fly".

Though I am personally in full support of Coldplay, you have to admit the two songs sound remarkably the same.
Coincidence? Or not?

Comment on what you think.

For Listeners of Snow Patrol

Now, who doesn't like Snow Patrol?

Recently, I have discovered a band who has a similar sound to Snow Patrol. They are Satellite State.
Also, their EP is on iTunes
Anyway, Satellite State has a lot of talent. Their music is very fun to listen to. Also, their lyrics are very genuine and meaningful. So far, my favorite song of is "Lights Out". It is a rock song with a Coldplay sound. Awesome sound/style, it's something you would jam out to in the car. I'd rate their EP a 9/10, only because I think they still need to find that one thing that separates their music from the rest. The thing that really makes their band stand out.

Give Thanks,
Abbey

Best Kept Secret

J Minus is an alternative band from Seattle, that does not receive enough credit for their music. When I listened to their albums, Sun and Moon and Under the Blue, I was hooked. Their music is similar to the well known band, City and Colour, and musician, Howie Day. The song, "A Mile Away", reminds me especially of Howie Day. I would give the album Sun and Moon a full 10/10 rating. Their album as acoustic and alternative on it, which is a good blend suiting your every mood. You know how you could never get sick of Goo Goo Doll's songs? Well, that is how I feel about J Minus' songs. So far, my favorite on the album is "Anywhere".  The beat is very catchy and I love the guitar in it. Their album is already on iTunes, so go download it!
Anyway, if you want to listen to full songs, check out their myspace page

Womanizer?

Yes, Jordan Johnson looks like one in his self created music video, Womanizer featuring himself. He added himself in certain parts. The singing goes with the video and the lyrics couldn't be more perfect. And he doesn't look too bad himself...

FREE ALBUM

Go check out Jonathan Clay's myspace , www.myspace.com/jonathanclay because he is offering a free download of his Acoustic Sessions album. The greatest part about it is he is really good! He is an acoustic/ indie artist.
You may have heard his song: "Back than Good" it was on the hills!

Also, I was curious as to why he was giving an entire album out for free. This was my question:

Me: Hey Jonathan, I just wanted to let you know I have loved your music since I heard it on the HIlls and I am happy to support your free album. I can't help but wonder why you are giving an entire album for free. Why did you decide to do this?
Jonathan: Hey Abbey, Levi's is making it possible to give away my album. They sponsored me. Thanks for asking.

And because I want to make this as easy as possible, I posted the free album on this blog.

fan of electronic?

watch out for CHRISTIAN SCHULZ
is an electro/pop artist unlike anything you have ever heard. He is so different, it's so intriguing on what else this aspiring artist can come up with. He is not quite electronic, and not all the way pop. He has established a new genre for himself, unlike anything I have ever heard. If you don't think Christian is unique, please let me know of another artist that sounds similar. I am very curious.

Oh and he already has an EP on iTunes titled Limbs.
including songs-
"Scars"
"You're Not There"
"Just a Fool"

give new music a chance.

New Myspace

Hey guys, I'm trying to get some viewers so I decided to make a myspace. The URL is www.myspace.com/mixedtapemusic1

the more viewers I get, the more updates I will do.

Listen up Matt Nathanson fans

So, I came across this Facebook ad that read, "For listeners of Matt Nathanson". So I clicked on it and it brought me to a myspace. www.myspace.com/bradpassons. Then I discovered the next Matt Nathanson...Brad Passons

He sounds so much like him, it's unbelievable. Anyone who says they are a MN fan will love Passons. I want this guy to get BIG, so everyone needs to listen to his songs on myspace and get him recognized!

Who would have thought, a great musician discovered through a banner ad on Facebook..

Free Download on iTunes

The weekly free download in iTunes is a song by The Script. It's called "Before the Worst".
It is from their new CD, The Script, and the song is great. It's worth the 30 second wait to download.

Here's an excerpt:
"We were sitting with our backs against the world
Saying things that we thought but never heard
Who would have thought it would end up like this?

Where everything we talked about is gone
And the only chance we have of moving on
Is trying to take it back before it all went wrong"

They are one of my new interests. Enjoy!

new today:

"Heartless" (single)- Kanye West. This song is the same style as "Love Lockdown". He is moving away from the average rap song and adding his own style.

"You Belong With Me" (single) - Taylor Swift. Man, she has a new single out like everyday. The contents of her new album will not be a surprise. I'm shocked she released her singles so quickly.

The Script- The Script. I love this album. "We Cry" is a very interesting, emotional song. Check it out.

Play- Brad Paisley. I've always liked Paisley.

Twilight Soundtrack- many artists. This soundtrack has a variety of good music on it. The movie is going to be insane.

Between the Lines: Sara Bareiles Live at the Fillmore- Sara Bareilles. With this album everyone can see how truly talented she is.

"I Don't Care" (Cobra Starship Suave Suarez Remix) single- Fall Out Boy. Kind of cool, I guess.

"G.L.O.W" (single + one) - Smashing Pumpkins. Classic SP. Awesome.

P!nk new album

This is my unofficial review of P!nks new album, "Funhouse".

My first impression of the album, was of course the single "So What", which absolutely blew my away. I loved this song from the start. It was a typical "bad-ass" P!ink song. Her music has so much passion and energy put into it, it's hard not to get emotional while listening to it. As for the other songs on the album, I really enjoyed most of them. "Please Don't Leave Me" is a very unusual song for P!nk to sing because it is very slow and does not have very involved vocals. But her voice is so distinctive, I would know it was her anyway. On the other hand, "It's all Your Fault" is a similar song to "You and Your Hand". It has the same rhythm in a sense. "Sober" sort of reminds me of an Alanis Morissette Song. It has electric guitars in it and I can just picture Alanis singing this passionate song. These songs were a lot slower than I expected. I think this album was P!nk's therapy during her break-up and she was getting out all of her feelings. They are all about relationships and are love/hate songs. The lyrics are rather moving, and from this I conclude that P!ink is an emotional, passionate person. I've always loved her and I really do love every song on this album. It is worth buying.

my new obsession

Three words-
We the Living.

I'm in love with their song, "Best Laid Plans". It is very calm music with pianos/drums/ and a little guitar I guess. and soft voices. But not like Imogen Heap. It's a little like Coldplay, but not radical sounds and a different soft voice. Woah, it's harder than I thought to describe sound.

Check it out. You'll regret it if you don't.

Other good songs by We the Living-
"London Rain"
"Half the Girl"

I've recently developed an obsession with this band. I believe they will/can be great.

MILLENNIUM ONE HIT WONDERS..

These songs were hit songs that have been forgotten about.
Millennium One Hit Wonders

"Beverly Hills"- Weezer
This song was played so many times on the radio, everyone just banned it from their iTunes playlists. Listen to it again, I really like it now.

"Sugar, We're Goin Down"- Fall Out Boy
Their most popular song, made when they were in their prime. Now in my eyes they are not as good. When remembering my Fall Out Boy stage I will remember this song.

"The Future Freaks Me Out"- Motion City Soundtrack
What ever happened to this band. They released a new album last year, but I think all of their fans disappeared.

"Don't Know Why"- Norah Jones
Where did Norah Jones disappear to? This song is BEAUTIFUL. When it came out it was not cool to like music like this, but now that I have gotten over that stage.

"Just the Girl"-The Click Five
This was the pop song of 2005-06. They were a one hit wonder band. Just another pop rock band to fail.

"The Reason"- Hoobastank
This song was so inspiring. It was so catchy and always was in my head. Recently, they released a new single that sounds more dark and hard rock. I'm assuming why this is the only song they are well known for.

"Let U Go"- Ashley Parker Angel
The pretty blond boy releases a pop rock song. How original. As to why he didn't make it, I think you get the point. No offense Ashley, I actually liked this song.

"It's Time To Dance"- Panic! at the Disco
Their BEST song ever. This is the song that made me start listening to Panic!. Their album at the time was really good. Then they, of course, changed their style a little. But hey, it happens and they still have a large fan base.

"American Idiot"- Green Day
Where did Green Day sketch off to? They had a number of [painfully overplayed] hits. Toname a few: Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Time of Your Life. They released an awesome album that had most of these songs included and the image was a hand holding a heart. Everybody knew the Green Day symbol, it was like a way of life. Apparently, though, Green Day changed their band name to Foxboro Hot Tubs (no, I'm actually not kidding) and released a new album titled "Stop Drop and Roll!!" Their most successful song being "Mother Mary". Download it--it really is them.

New Releases

"Gives You Hell" single- All American Rejects
Many fans complain that the band changed their style in this single sounding more pop than rock. But it is a good, catchy song. However, I understand where they are coming from. When comparing this song to "Swing Swing" I found it to sound very different.

"Take Back the City" by Snow Patrol
Snow Patrol does it again with this single. Their style is very unique. They are phasing out of their Coldplay like sound and creating their own style.

"Kingdom Underground" (Album)- Matt Duke
For listeners of: Josh Kelley, Jon McLaughlin, Matt Wertz
He has a very calm voice, but nothing really stands out to me about him. But don't get me wrong, I like his music. I personally like the song, "Opposum" has a fun, catchy sound that will be stuck in you're head all day.

Recent Releases

Another new release is Keane's new album titled, Perfect Symmetry
For those of you who don't know who Keane is, they are a mix of Coldplay and electronic music. An old favorite is "Somewhere Only We Know" or "Is it Any Wonder".

Ben Folds' new CD is great, ofcourse. It's called Way To Normal.
I just can't stop listening to "You Don't Know Me" featuring Regina Spektor.

Fall Out Boy released a new single off their upcoming album titled "Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown On a Bad Bet". Yeah, the title is not easy to remember. It sounds no different than the traditional FOB song.

Ingrid Michaelson released her new album titled, Be Ok. My favorite on the album is currently "Giving Up". This is a song that is probably or will be played on Grey's Anatomy at some point in time.

It is strange for me to say, but my current favorite song is ...."LIVE YOUR LIFE" by Rihanna and T.I. This song is so catchy and different. Kudos to T.I for taking a tip from Lil' Wayne and making his rap interesting and new. For those of you who don't know this song it was the song preformed by Rihanna and T.I at the VMAS. It is currently number one on the iTunes top 100.

Question of the Day:

This is something I have been thinking about for a while now, if you have an opinion, please comment--

If The Beatles was still a band, would their music genre change in any way in response to the change in music styles and tastes? Or do you think they would stay the same? How do you think the music industry today would try to alter their style/image?

Just a thought.

Copyright on that question.

New Aspiring Artist I found on YouTube

Alex Cornell.

He does awesome covers of hit songs that sound truly professional. But recently has been recording his own songs. I really want him to make it big, I have been listening for a while now and notice that he is still unsigned. What the hell?

Myspace.com/AlexCornellMusic

Youtube.com/alxcornell

he is similar to John Mayer, if that helps.

Anyone like Karaoke?

Karaoke is so much fun and you can do it for free at Simsonstage.com.

I'm a member myself and I absolutely love it!

you can even record your own songs.

Sorry if this seems like an annoying add.

Peace,
Abbey R

UPDATE

Woah! Throwing
David Archuleta out of the top spot on iTunes is new release single, "Whatever You Like" by T.I .  CONGRATS!

Another new release that quickly jumped on the top 10 chart is Pinks new single, "So What". Her songs are always comedic and mention celebrities. I noticed "Jessica Simpson" in this song.
And Katy Perry's annoying song, "I Kissed a Girl" is barley hanging on the top 10 spot, being number 10! Finally! I knew she would get old.

And what happened to Shwayze's "Corona and Lime"? It all the sudden dropped down like 20 spots. They are actually unique people, start downloading!

What do you guys think of these new releases??

Did Someone say HipHop?

LIL WAYNE
is my all time favorite rapper. I'm assuming everyone has heard of him, newest and very popular album The Carter III was a huge hit. People even bought it disregarding  the disturbing image of a baby with tattoos on the cover.
I've gone through favorite songs from that album, but after "Let the Beat Build" got old, i moved on to "Playing With Fire".

His beats are just so original and catchy. No one else does it like Lil Wayne.

Song of the Day

Love Remains the Same by Gavin Rossdale

album name:Wanderlust

It's actually on the iTunes top
100 list, surprisingly something worth listening to!

Great song with great lyrics and easy listening sound

For people who like:
soft rock or rock
Listeners often like:3 Doors Down, Candlebox, Augustana

Newly Released

The following albums/singles are new release

A Little Bit Longer- Jonas Brothers (yawn)
Look What You Made Me- Yung Berg
Crush- David Archuleta
Change- Taylor Swift
Get Back- Demi Lovato
Real- Goo Goo Dolls (See what I mean)
Somethin' Special- Colbie Calliat (personal fav)
Warrior- Nelly

When is the Tyler Hilton album being released? Tyler, your letting me down.

As of RIGHT NOW: the top iTunes download is Crush by David Archuleta. Do you guys like it? I think Viva La Vida by Coldplay deserves the #1 spot.

Give a little bit, more like A LOT

Do you recognize the beginning of my title from a famous song? Yes, it is from the Goo Goo Doll's Hit "Give a Little Bit" (2004). The Goo Goo Dolls, an amazing rock band with countless hits, have been around since the eighties. It seems to me that people today do not award them with the attention they deserve for releasing so many new albums and singles. You cannot deny that at one point or another you liked a song by them. The band is still releasing singles, but they are not as popular. What happened to the fan base? I'm sure it's still as strong, but most are focused on the current "Top 20", right? Well I'm here to say that the "Top 20" list on iTunes is composed of over played songs from the radio that everyone is sick of. If you can't recognize (or even recite) the top 10 songs, you must not listen to the radio at all. What I am trying to get across is IGNORE the popular music, explore a little on your own. Find out what your old favorites, like the Goo Goo Dolls themselves are playing these days.

The undiscovered bands are always the best. They are always the most original.

"oh oh oh listen to the music" -Doobie Brothers

If you like listening to free radio on the computer

www.pandora.com
is the best website for listening to music. All you do is create a station by listing your favorite artist/song and it creates a station with music similar that I GUARANTEE you do not hear often!

Oh, and while your on the internet you might as well check out my FAVORITE website www.perezhilton.com. He also has a very unique taste in music.

Check it out for me,

Abbey R.

Music pick of the day

Today the song I cannot stop listening to is:

Careful
by Guster

(Available on iTunes)

Genre: Soft Rock.

I like this song because the vocals are soft, and the rock is very soft and simple. It is very relaxing and good to listen to in the morning, or just to take a nap.

DOWNLOAD IT!

With Love,
Abbey R.

About

This blog is written by me, an average person. I will be biased when writing about the best music because I obviously have a favorite. I only write about the music I like, which is rock (soft rock/pop rock/hard rock), country, and some hip-hop/rap. I know, it sounds selfish to not include other genres, but I know nothing about jazz, classical, and screamo music.

Please feel free to comment on any ideas. No negative comments please.
I will be updating randomly, and I hope I can broaden your music preference.

Thanks,
Abbey R
